“...the [person] who is more devoted to “order” than to justice: who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, ‘I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods.’” MLK
The mission and purpose of Oneness Ministries is to address the issues of race and culture in the Christian Church. In today’s diversity seminars we talk about understanding of different cultures from around the world and learn how to minister to those who are not like ourselves but what actually happens when we leave that conference room? My experience it what was heard stays there and we go back to what is easy.
Though this is needed training I believe it does not go far enough. I have lived a multicultural, and interracial lifestyle all of my life. I have worked with African American institution and with “main stream” institutions and have constantly found myself trapped in the middle trying to bring clarity between the two.
In my lifetime of multicultural experiences I have come to the realization that one of, and most importantly, the mitigating factors that keep us divided primarily between black and white has to do with my own race, racism and culture. Unfortunately, I believe that the majority of the issues are with my own caucasian brothers. We tend not to see what people of color see and that blinds us in our leadership and ministry and ultimately in the ends hurts and keeps us divided. Currently, the churches that are diverse tend to run under the operation of white culture. Minorities most of the time have to give up their cultural expression and needs just to be in a mixed crowd and to be fully accepted into the “mainstream.” This is not being diverse or multicultural it is still exercising superiority, dominance and power. I also have to say, one who has worked within administered black institution they don’t do a good job reaching out to those in their community as well. If we are truly going to be diverse or multicultural we both have to quit operating mainly our of own cultural experience to reach out to those how are not the same.
So, mission and purpose on this website is to try to reveal, expose, train and educate people on race and cultural and how it relates to gospel call and ministry. Yes, things that will be posted on here may sting and hurt but whenever something is broke there is always pain present during healing. In the end, freedom and healing occurs and true unity is exhibited. Some say what I present only brings division but I say it only brings “true” and “genuine” unity.
